Captain Beefheart & his Magic Band

Captain Beefheart & his Magic Band Live April 10, 1972

Captain Beefheart A.K.A. Don van Vliet entered the stage at the Club 7 in Oslo, Norway on April 10, 1972 stating that I wanna light my cigar. The Magic Band – featuring Winged Eel Fingerling (Elliot Ingber) of the Mothers of Invention and the Fraternity of Man, Orejon (Roy Estrada) of the Mothers of Invention and Little Feat, Ed Marimba (Arthur Dire Tripp III) of the Mothers of Invention, Zoot Horn Rollo and Rockette Morton drew from the good Captain’s extensive catalogue: Click Clack, Alice in Blunderland (featuring Elliot Ingber on solo guitar), When It Blows Its Stacks and many more. Captain Beefheart played his harmonica – as well as two wood winds – simultaneously – much in the same vain as Roland Kirk. The Magic Band – with two bassists – was most dynamic. This contrasts very well with the Amsterdam set recently released.
