John McLaughlin and the 4th Dimension – live in Monte Carlo – May 9, 2008
John McLaughlin and the 4th Dimension played their first concert at Salle Garnier in Monte Carlo yesterday, May 9. As mentioned elsewere Dominique di Piazza replaced Hadrien Feraud on bass. The concert was very well received. It comprised some of the newer material as well as compositions from previous settings. Among the compositions were Maharina, Nostalgia, Hijacked, Little Miss Valley, Mother Tongues, The Unknown Dissident, Sorry (penned by Gary Husband) and yes there was a standing ovation and an encore.
John Mclaughlin played his black Godin throughout the concert and the acoustics were nice. The interplay between John McLaughlin and Dominique di Piazza was phenomenal – as in the Guitars for Africa in November 2006 and on the Que Alegria album. John McLaughlin tapped his Godin – albeit sparsely! Husband and Mondesir did a drum duet during Mother Tongues a la what Trilok Gurtu traditionally did alone. This new tour is highly recommended!
