Scott Sawyer: Go There /with Oteil Burbridge, Kofi Burbridge

Released in the year 2007.
Scott Sawyer – guitars – Scott has 20+ years of experience in the jazz world but has always stayed connected to his blues & rock roots. Musicians he has performed/recorded with include Nnenna Freelon, Bill Anschell, Lois DeLoatch, David Murray, Charlie Byrd, Ghezzi, Jon Metzger, and Mel Melton.
Scott Sawyer is one of North Carolina’s guitar masters. Jazz-wise enough to back jazz vocalist Nnenna Freelon on several national and international tours, yet nasty enough to handle the lead guitar chores for Mel Melton (Congo Square) & The Wicked Mojos. Scott has performed in the USA, Brasil, Canada, Europe, Asia, The Middle East & Central America. He’s appeared on numerous recordings including a Grammy-Nominated Performance in 1997 (Nnenna Freelon's "Shaking Free"). >From southside Chicago blues bars to prestigious venues and major festivals around the world—and everything in-between--Scott has shared the stage and/or appeared on numerous recordings with many noteable artists including Charlie Byrd, David Murray, actor Danny Aiello, prima ballerina Marie-Christine Mouis (Paris Opera Ballet), Scott Ainslee, Delbert McClinton, Bob Cranshaw, Ron Carter, Bill Anshell, Jack Wilkins, Dave Myers (Little Walter), and Jon Lucien. In November 2006, Scott Sawyer recorded Go There with Kenny Soule (Nantucket, Dag, PKM) on drums, Oteil Burbridge (Allman Brothers, Aquarium Rescue Unit, Oteil and the Peacemakers) on electric bass, Kofi Burbridge (Derek Trucks Band, ARU) on B3 & flute and Ron Brendle (Big Octave, Frank Kimbrough, Mose Allison) on acoustic bass. The sessions re-united Sawyer & Soule after the split of the original Go There, which enjoyed a cult following in NC but disbanded in 2004.
And Kofi and Oteil were re-united for their first recording together in 8 years. "There was no prior rehearsal and we had to work very quickly...but it was BIG FUN making this record and the music reflects that!"
Edgy, provocative groove from NC guitarist Scott Sawyer; featuring Kenny Soule on drums, Kofi Burbridge on organ and flute, Oteil Burbridge on electric bass, and Ron Brendle on upright acoustic bass.

Author: HANDSOME AL HECKLE
With this Rhythm section behind him Scott Sawyer shines like new money. IMHO it is some of the best work he has done to date. Tax Man is awesome and is followed with killer tunes as well. WHAT A GREAT PLAYER!
