Jeff Beck played live at Oslo Spektrum June 15, 2011. There were no band changes. The lineup still consists of Rhonda Smith (bass and vocals), Jason Rebello (keyboards, vocals and guitar) and Narada Michael Walden (drums and vocals). Oslo Spektrum is a rather large concert hall with some thousand seats, compared to the more intimate setting of e.g. Ronnie Scotts in London. The concert was highly professional and up to Beck at his best. The set list comprised, Plan B, Stratus (Billy Cobham), Led Boots, Brush with the Blues, Big Block, Rollin’ and Tumblin’ (vocals Rhonda Smith and Jason Rebello), A Rhonda Smith bass solo, People Get Ready (Curtis Mayfield), Little Wing (Jimi Hendrix, vocals Narada Michael Walden), A Day in the Life (Lennon/McCartney) Dirty Mind, and a Les Paul/Mary Ford tribute with How High the Moon. Beck played his white signature Stratocaster, except for How High the Moon where he sported an “ox-blood” Les Paul. The show was well attended and enthusiastically received. He used the tremolo bar with great efficiency, and did quite a lot of two hand tapping and harmonics. After A Day in the Life he even played the riff from Purple Haze. This summer the Jeff Beck tour 2011 of Europe continues. Don’t miss it!
