Ry Cooder with the Chieftains -live
Ry Cooder performed with the Chieftains on January 25, 2010 during the “Celtic Connections” festival in Glasgow. The Chieftains played their old favorites – and even the riff from “Satisfaction” by the Rolling Stones. He did not perform many numbers by himself, however, he debuted a new song “The Sands of Mexico”.
This composition dealt with troops, of Irish origin, fighting the Union Army in Mexico. Cooder explained that this tune was about war in general, not seen from any particular angle, saying “history will absolve us”. He finished his contribution with Leadbelly´s Good Night Irene”. Some of the music from this particular concert will be issued under the title “San Patricio” – which will be out soon.
