Sylvain Luc, Richard Bona, Steve Gadd – live – Cosmopolite, Oslo, Norway, February 5, 2009
The trio consisting of Sylvain Luc (guitars), Richard Bona (electric bass) and Steve Gadd (drums) played a tremendous concert at Cosmopolite in Oslo, Norway on February 5, 2009. Cosmopolite reopened as a venue as late as in 2008. This concert drew a very large and enthusiastic audience. The performance lasted nearly two hours, opening with the composition “Tequlia”, featuring Sylvain Luc playing his electro-acoustic Godin guitar in a most syncopated way, tightly followed by the rythm section of Gadd and Bona. Bona did most of the introductions and sang as well as playing bass – most efficiently. The trio covered a lot of territory, including compositions by Sylvain Luc, Richard Bona as well as James Taylor. Sylvain Luc´s “Fandangito” was an outstanding number. Many of Luc ´s solos actually emulated the playing of guitar, bass and percussion simultaneously, sometimes playing above the fretboard and also using the tuners to reach different notes – while soloing. The trio finished the concert with Bonas composition “Burning”.
The trio received a standing ovation and played one encore, written by Richard Bona, on a trip to India. This was an extremely well-played composition. Steve Gadd, who played as perfectly as ever, commented the it was a privelige to play with two of the most talented musicians on the planet – a statement which it is very difficult to argue with.
