Vibraphonist Larry Chernicoff's "October" combines the warm acoustic sound of a large chamber ensemble with the dynamic and improvisation of jazz. This release earned the "Best Made For Surround Title" at the Surround Music Awards in Hollywood, an honor previously held by Steely Dan.
For this CD recording, he has shifted the balance more toward notation, with improvisation growing organically out of the composition. The group has expanded, with a new blend of instruments. It's a rich sound, created by players who are accomplished bandleaders, composers, and international performers. Many of them have roots in the Creative Music Studio, and the wide-open musical philosophy that it embodied.
