AbstractLogix :: Guitar :: Guthrie Govan - Erotic Cakes (UK Import)

Guthrie Govan - Erotic Cakes (UK Import)
Guthrie Govan - Erotic Cakes (UK Import)
2006 Release from guitar prodigy Guthrie Govan. A member of the prog super group 'Asia', Guthrie's debut record has been the talk of town.

'Erotic Cakes' is a listening and inspirational jewel. Guthrie's exquisite playing will undoubtedly become the bench mark for Guitar. Equally Seth Govan and Pete Riley have raised the bar with their Bass and drum virtuosity. The performances here are truly amazing. The one thing that will separate this recording from the mainstream is the musicality of the song writing and the production.
Here are some kind words about Guthrie from some amazing players we really respect and whos music we love.

Joe Satriani:
Totally freakin awesome!!! this CD put a grin on my face a mile wide.

Richie Kotzen:
Guthrie Govan can do anything he wants as a guitarist. He has total command over the instrument; I love to watch Guthrie live as he always plays something new that the rest of us would never have thought of. He is truly a gifted musician and I am honored to be a part of Guthrie's 1st album. (Guest solo from Richie on "Ner Ner")

Greg Howe:
Guthrie is a brilliant guitarist whose super high level of proficiency does not seem to be limited to any one particular genre or style

Dweezil Zappa:
Every time I hear Guthrie play I feel like I have to fasten my seatbelt. He is an alien. His technique and execution is staggering. Ultimately what is most impressive about him is his musicality. He has total freedom on guitar... BASTARD!

If you're into (or have been into) Vai, Satch, a bit of Yngwie mixed in with the likes of Lane, Howe, and Garsed, some Morse and EJ with sprinklings of Henderson, Scofield, and Metheny with a portion of Derek Trucks, Scotty Anderson and Brent Mason thrown

This is an expensive cd, but it is worth it! I'd pay so much more that this if I had to (though I wish the price would fall so more people could afford this amazing album, everyone deserves to and should listen to this CD at least once.) Guthrie is a technical giant, but he doesn't let it ruin his ability to make music - just the opposite. I have shown this album to a rather large number of friends with different musical tastes, and they all love it.

Seriously, buy this!

Yes, I get a grin when I hear Guthrie's playing, but it is more than that. He is truely inspiring. I have practiced more after hearing him than I have in 5 years and tapped more than I have since 1987. Guthrie gives every guitar player hope that if you dedicate the time you too can play the licks that Steve Vai was inventing in the 1990s ... but, with better tone - Thanks Guthrie, you inspire!
