I have always had a fondness for the Hammond B-3 Organ in combination with the Leslie rotating speaker. Since the instrument has enjoyed a well-desereved revival, I've had the great pleasure of working with some talented organists, especially Bruce Katz, in whose band I have gladly played for ten years plus. For this, my second album, I decided to c reate a personal expression based on, but not really sounding like, the established jazz organ combo. Naturally this would involve composing original material that would create a challenging environment in which the organ would function. The tradition is there but we as a band cannot "lean" on it. In addition I also came up with three non-original pieces that I knew would work- Miles Davis's seldom played "Stuff", Bruce Katz's tune "Just An Expression" and the gospel hymn, "Swing Low, Sweet Chariot", all rearrangerd for this project.
