On Signature (Discovery Records), her first major album in 11 years and first instrumental effort since 1979, Patrice Rushen looks back to where she began and ahead to where she's going-at the same time. Signature is original yet familiar, complex yet simple, emotionally powerful yet smooth and mellow.
Signature is the first of her 12 albums to include covers: renditions of the 1985 Sade smash hit "The Sweetest Taboo" and The Stylistics' 1980 R&B hit "Hurry Up This Way Again," neither of which has ever been previously recorded as an instrumental.
