Author: KT I can only give half a review because I've only seen Disc 2 of this release. I should add, however, that I've seen the entire Disc 2 performance because the whole set in '74 was captured on video and has existed for many years as a popular Bit Torrent item before it was removed. Therefore, I feel that this official release should be penalized for claiming that only 3 pieces were ever taped for video. Apart from the factual inaccuracies and the dubious marketing, the '74 set was a great performance by the band. Everyone seems happy to be there, and technical problems were kept to a minimum. (The string section sounds overmiked at times giving some of the passages a scratchy tone, and John gets visibly annoyed with a rogue stab of feedback). As far as the '84 disc goes, I did like some of the stuff the 80's lineup put out, but I haven't seen this material yet so I can't really comment. I do hope that one day, all of the 70's Mahavishnu video stuff gets officially released (and there's plenty) so that all the band's fans have a chance to put faces to the sounds of this legendary ensemble.
