:: Mist Season: Mist Season
Mist Season: Mist Season
The first CD of the Finnish group Mist Season is an original and many-faced, but coherent collection of 11 tracks. The atmosphere of the album varies from moods that that tap the feet to cosmic feelings; from a jazz waltz and ballads to groovy rhythms. Contrary to the present-day trends, every single note in the album is played by a human hand; no programming or other mechanical aids of playing are used. Mist Season lays great emphasis on a personal touch, distinct melodies, and musical stories and feelings that the compositions transmit. The CD has been mixed and mastered by a well-known Finnish record producer and TV journalist Tommi Liuhala, who has ever since the 70’s been working with, for instance, Wigwam, Kalevala and Haikara. One of the highlights in the CD is a 20 page, 4-color booklet that contains photographic art of Esko Tuovinen. The photos underline the musical moods to a great extent, but each of them is yet a work of art in itself. "Jazzy touches melting with pop and classic progressive rock melodies. All in all, a very good album which should appeal to jazz fusion lovers who dare to discover new horizons." - Juan Jose Salas R./ Margen "Throughout this 11-track excursion the quintet is the epitome of the word band. All musicians play like seasoned veterans without any one member overstepping the delicate musical lines of each track...A record that gets better with repeated listens." -Yves Dube / Sea of Tranquility "This is jazz combined with prog, but while this is a very easy album to listen to it could never really be called easy listening...It is something that can be enjoyed on first hearing, at least that was the case with me, but the more that it is played then the more the listener will get out of it." - Kev Rowland / Feedback Fanzine ”One of the most interesting works of latest jazz i've heard along with Mindflowers ; this album called Mist Season is a solid debut album that on their own way ended combining a fusion between Spyro Gyra and The Brecker Brothers remembering the manhattan NYC jazz sound, Mist Season added this influences to a warm and pleasant for anyone that has been into jazz, and as well for the ones that didnt since the music is very digestable as for any listener searching for wise music. I thought about doing a review song per song, but this album just needs an introduction, its clear that anyone who has listened to all sorts of jazz/Fusion bands will enjoy this band as much as i did... Its like combining the best elements from jazz and turning them into a modern crafted jazz. I gotta say im glad this band is more concerned about creating memorable songs more than doing a wank fest of technicall soloing....Very Highly Recommended” - Franko / Progarchives "Throughout this CD, the summary of these musicians' experience and desire to make something respectable and real, will pay off for the patient listener." -Frank Bellflower / Progressive Ears
