Amie Maciszewski (sitar); Swapan Mukherjee (tabla)

2010 release "Guru Pranam" features North Indian classical sitar solo by Maciszewski with tabla accompaniment by Swapan Mukherjee. This tribute to Maciszewski's gurus Sarode Maestro Aashish Khan, Hindustani vocal diva Padmabhushan Girija Devi, and the late sitar professor Suresh Misra, was recorded live during her recital at Sangeet Research Academy in Kolkata, India, in December 2009. In the performance, Maciszewski makes an offering of the music she has gleaned from three decades of study. She performs two ragas in the performance, the just-after-twilight melody "Puriya Kalyan" which she unfolds in the traditional manner in three movements (the unmetered melodic exploration alap, followed by the slow vilambit gat, building speed to a climax in the drut gat). The second melody, "Mand," is a lyrical medley based on a popular folk tune-type from the desert state of Rajasthan.
