Author: Patrick Kelly Having seen Human Element in concert at the New Universe Festival back in november 2010 I was really looking forward to this release. I am happy to say I was not disappointed. This music has not left my various players since I received it the other day.If you like the music of Weather Report or Joe Zawinul then you will love Human Element.
That is not to say that this band is a copy or knock-off of WR or JZ, it is to say that it is moving their spirit forward to a new place and time.
The compositions are all great and the groove is infectious.
Be sure to listen to this on a good system at a good volume or a good set of headphones!
Author: Lutz Amazing cd, new territory.
Emulating and building on Zawinul's world music, taking it to a new level.
A truly gifted bunch!
Author: Bruno BERNARD Good album. I totally agree with Patrick Kelly. I miss a guitarist in that record in order to have a second melodical instrument and other flavors. it could have kind of dialogs between soloists
Author: John S Too steeped in Weather Report and Zawinul. That's not necessarily bad, but why not listen to the originals? Great playing by fine musicians, but marred by a lack of originality. Give me someone with their own voice.
Author: Dario BABET I agree with John S. Too steeped in zawinul. To do this kind of music, he should have taken Linley Marthe on bass instead of Matt Garisson even if the later is a fantastic bass player. To play this kind of music, the bass and drums must sound more "roots". It would have been more groovy i think.
Author: Mike Jacobs This may sound too derivative of Zawinul to some, just as Tim Miller sounds derivative of Holdsworth upon the first listen. But, as with Miller, it is because Human Element finds inspiration in such a musically unique and iconic source that it initially generates the impression of a knock-off version of the original. It is with subsequent listens that one discovers how much they have imprinted their own musical psyches on the Zawinulian Worldview. I find it to be a thing of beauty on its own terms and look forward to more from them in the future.
Author: Tom GREAT CD!! - Definitely inspired by the music of Joe Zawinul, which only serves to keep the spirit of that incredible music alive. This combination of musicians brings new levels of passion and beauty to the power and complexity that defined Zawinul's music. I hope this is the first of many Human Element recordings!
Author: Dan Weston Burnin’! Album of the year. The recording, compositions and order on the disc create a musical experience worth every second of attention. Comparisons aside, Human Element has created a great CD of some of the most gifted players in the world. I look forward to more.
