Wayne Krantz to release second edition of his book-An Improviser’s OS
Fifteen years ago, musician Wayne Krantz released an unconventionally entertaining music theory book, “An Improviser’s OS,” through his website, waynekrantz.com. Frustrated by traditional methods of learning and teaching scales and chords on the guitar, Krantz had come up with a system of practice that increases scale and chord knowledge without compromising the creative elements that make the knowledge musically relevant and applicable. “An Improviser’s OS” was a summation of that system, as well as being a creative handbook which recognized the potential irony of a creative artist concerning themselves with the math of music.
Subsequently the book became available through the Abstract Logix portal and since then has enjoyed an ever-renewing readership of music students of all ages and levels, worldwide. “An Improviser’s OS” has been translated into Japanese, with a Spanish translation currently under consideration.
Now, Wayne Krantz and Abstract Logix are pleased to announce the release of “An Improviser’s OS v.2”(2019). Almost a complete rewrite of the first edition, Wayne Krantz has clarified all the book’s core instruction, while adding significantly to it with knowledge and experience gained since the first edition’s publication in 2005. Making a respectful distinction between lick playing and creative improvisation, the book reinforces the power of spontaneity in the meeting of mind and spirit promised by contemporary improvisation.
“An Improviser’s OS v.2” is an essential handbook for anyone seeking to expand their vision creatively through music or other means.
