Col. Bruce Hampton (Guitar), The Aquarium Rescue Unit.
Relix is excited to announce that we will be presenting all of the dates on Col. Bruce Hampton & the Aquarium Rescue Unit’s upcoming reunion tour. The band, which we referred to as “the Jamband Velvet Underground” in our 40th anniversary issue, will be playing their first shows since a 2011 gig at Georgia Theatre in Athens, GA.
The tour will kick off with a two-night run at the Fox Theatre in Boulder, CO on July 29 and 30. Next, the band will make a few more stops in Colorado before before swinging through the Southeast at the beginning of August. Aquarium Rescue Unit will then head to the Northeast, where they will wrap up the reunion outing with a show at the Brooklyn Bowl in New York City on August 16. Tickets for all of the dates are set to go on sale this Friday, March 27 at 11am ET.
Col. Bruce Hampton & the Aquarium Rescue Unit played a seminal role in fostering today’s jamband community. For the upcoming reunion tour, the band will be hitting the road with its classic lineup of frontman Col. Bruce Hampton, guitarist Jimmy Herring, bassist Oteil Burbridge and drummer Jeff Sipe. They will also be joined by keyboardist Matt Slocum, who performed with them at their 2011 Georgia Theatre show.
While longtime Aquarium Rescue Unit mandolin player Matt Mundy will not be touring with the group, Relix has learned that Mundy has been performing in acoustic settings as of late, and we will hold out hope that he will make an appearance at some point along the way.
